Allow 45 minutes for the journey from Pietermaritzburg to Solitude.

Lions River route:

• Take the Howick/Tweedie offramp from the N3.

• At the top of the off-ramp head towards Tweedie (not Howick), passing under a narrow tunnel bridge.

• At the T-juntion by the Zenex garage turn right towards Lions River.

• After 5kms, passing Thokans Cash Store, look for a left turn to Dargle/Impendle (and Hebron Haven). Take this left.

• Continue for 5km, passing the Lions River Club and Lamtim, then take a left turn to Petrus Stroom (and Aird Country House).

• After 2.5km at the T-Juntion by Corrie Lyn turn right.

• After Barland farm you will see a left turn labelled Aird Country House. Take this left turn.

• After about 3kms you will have passed Aird on your right. Soon after Aird, turn left into the farm track marked Solitude (farm 33).

• Follow the signs to Solitude and follow the driveway through the pine trees to the cottages.

Bumpy shorter route:

• Take the Howick / Tweedie offramp from the N3.

• At the top of the off-ramp head towards Tweedie (not Howick), passing under a narrow tunnel bridge.

• At the T-junction (at the Zenex garage) turn left.

• After about 200m turn right at the sign saying Petrus Stroom 8.  This becomes a dirt road.

• Continue for about 11 kms until you see a left turn labelled Aird Country House.  Take this left turn.

• After about 3kms you will have passed Aird on your right. Soon after Aird, turn left into the farm track marked Solitude (farm 33).

• Follow the signs to Solitude and follow the driveway through the pine trees to the cottages.

Please check your route on GPS, as some guides do not recognize the Petrus Stroom Road and take you a very long way round the back of the property via Boston. This is not an advisable route!
